16.08.13

As part of the Community Spaces Sustainability Funding, we have organised a series of four summer events at Britannia. On 7 August, children enjoyed making animal masks and dens in the woods, and last week, the children’s bike skills were tested when ‘Bike Right’ brought their portable skills loop to the event. Lots of fun was had by all. Next week, Proffitts will be community planting for the school and turning a neglected strip of land into a colourful border (Alan Titchmarsh eat your heart out!). For the final week, we will be kite building and fence decorating with a local community artist. Come and join in the fun!

22.08.13 Thank you to all the little helpers who came to help with our community planting event – we planted some nice perennials which will give a real lovely splash of colour just as the children return to school – it only takes a little effort to make a big difference

Britannia Residents United have been informed that they have secured £50,000 for the delivery of this project.

Client: Rossendale Borough Council
Completion: Ongoing
Value: £2,500
Funding: Rossendale Borough Council

Working directly with a local community group called Britannia Residents United, the group aim to provide the young people of Britannia with a multi-purpose games area (MUGA).

The group initially came across the idea when they successfully delivered phase 1 of the play area (toddler and junior play). Members of the community encouraged the group to start and implement phase 2 (youth provision element).

Proffitts have worked alongside the group to engage and consult with young people through detached youth work and local residents through informal focus group work, door knocking and questionnaires.

Through this work all of the community are aware of the project, young people have had input into the design and the majority of the community are in support.

The group hope to raise funds through applying to various grant sources, and, through the process they have followed they can now do this with confidence.
