The new wheeled sports park at Clarence Park has now been completed and is open again for users!

The ramps not only look amazing, but have been designed to appeal to people of all ages and abilities, so we really hope that local families and visitors enjoy spending many happy hours here.

We couldn’t have got this far without the amazing support of our funder Veolia Environment Trust, our contractors from CANVAS who worked incredibly hard in tough winter weather conditions, Bury Council who helped fund the project and have been committed to getting the site improved and open again, and the Bury community who have been hugely patient and supportive – thank you to you all.

Over the next few weeks, the area surrounding the ramps, will be cleared of any remaining work materials. In Spring, there will be a formal launch and celebration event for users, as well as meetings with youth groups about a possible wheeled sports phase 2 project. Hope to see you all there!

The CANVAS team continue to work really hard in Clarence Park! They’re currently working under a shelter to protect the new concrete, and battling with a storm – but they’re still there, and still moving forwards…👏

We are hoping the work will be finished early January if the weather permits, so fingers crossed for less rain and reasonable temperatures until then.

We’ve had the sun, the torrential rain and now the weather is on the turn again…

The extremely low temperatures are make working with the concrete quite tricky. However, the team from CANVAS are still working hard at Clarence. We’ll keep you updated about progress over the next couple of weeks, and we’ll keep our fingers crossed for a rise in the temperatures ☀️

Following the consultation with residents and park users last year, we shared your feedback with specialist wheeled sports contractors and we now have 3 design ideas for the space (see below). We are now encouraging anyone with an interest in wheeled sports such as skate boarding, BMXing, inline and scootering to take a look at the plans and let us know which one they like best. You can do this by completing this very short survey: Wheeled Sports Design Survey

The survey is very quick and your feedback is really important to us – we want to ensure that the new site works well for as many people as possible. Please note that the survey link will close on Friday 11th February at midday, so please complete it before then.

Thank you for your continued support with this project, we look forward to seeing which design you prefer. You can click on the pictures below to enlarge the images if needed.

Last week, the fantastic tree work team at Bury Council started the tree works at the wheeled sport area. Thanks to them, the site has been opened up and is looking much better and safer already. The next step is to start work on wheeled sport site itself. Invite to tender documents have been produced and will be available to specialist wheeled sport facility providers in a few weeks. We’ll update you again when we have more news.

Great news – with your help we have managed to secure a further £75k towards the wheeled sports area for Clarence Park! Thanks to everyone who shared their ideas. We are now working towards inviting contractors specialising in wheeled sports to give more detailed proposals working within the budget we now have. As before, we’ll aim to involve all the users of the facility in this next stage so can make sure we get a design that you love.

Following lots of consultation and feedback from the local community, we’re delighted to be able to share the plan for the intended Clarence Park improvements.

There is now a Friends of Clarence Park group working in partnership with Proffitts and Bury Council to deliver the plan and help make the changes.

You can click on the image below to enlarge the plan and take a look. Posters will also be displayed in the park. The first phase will focus on the skate park area – we’ll share more details with you soon.

If you have any questions or feedback please leave a comment below and someone will get back to you. Also, if you would like to share this plan with anyone – please do! Thanks to everyone for their support so far. This is a long term project and it’s great to have support from the local community.

As you may know, we were asked to give people more time to complete and return the survey for Clarence Park. Here are the updated results:

Clarence Park 2020

Following this, we’ve now got a plan to move forward and will begin to liaise with partners and user groups to work out key priorities and identify the funding needed. We’ll keep you updated.

17.12.2019

Thanks to everyone who completed the questionnaire. Here’s a summary of what everyone had to say:

Clarence Consultation

22.10.2019

We’re working alongside Bury Council to find out more about Clarence Park – we would like to know how the local community currently use the park, and how they would like to use the park in future.

We’ve already had some conversations with local residents and have attached a sketch design below which includes some ideas for improvements. However, we would really appreciate it if you could answer the questions on the short Clarence Park Questionnaire and let us have your thoughts and feedback before we finalise and prioritise any plans for the park. The survey is very quick and the responses you provide will give us really valuable information and insights.

Thank you for your help.

Following a meeting last week with Bury Borough Council, we are pleased to announce that we will be working towards making Clarence Park, Bury the first intended Dementia Friendly Park. We aim to create and install a variety of durable dementia friendly features within the park which will encourage use, confidence and physical activity within the park by older people, their families and their carers. The first step will be to involve local people, schools and current users of the park including Persona, in determining what improvements can be made. Potential improvements may be interpretation / picture boards / signage / reinstating features / access improvements / sound posts / site furniture / colours etc. Keep an eye on this site for updates. If you would like to get in touch, please leave a comment below.
