The first phase of work has begun on a project to develop a series of family orientated off road cycling routes using the Dunnockshaw Community Woodland area. Lancashire County Council is working with  Bike Action (PMBA), United Utilities and other land owners and has approached Proffitts to carry the project through.

The chosen area is already estabilshed as an outdoor leisure destination for people from Rossendale and Burnley due to its ease of access, network of surfaced paths stunning vies and remote feel.  The site is large enough to create a loop of approximately 9 km with a number of shorter loops within the overall trail. The key opportunity the site provides is the development of easy and intermediate grade trails that will appeal to a wide range of cyclists, encouraging more people to cycle off road local to where they live. The project will propose links with routes to nearby towns and healthy lifestyle initiatives.
