Mercer Park Wheeled Sports Area, Clayton-le-Moors

Mercer Park Wheeled Sports Area, Clayton-le-Moors

15.11.2019

The wheeled sports venue at Mercer Park is now complete! We enjoyed working with Clayton Youth Club and young people in Clayton-le-Moors on the project and we’re thrilled that the skateboarders, the BMXers and the scooter fans now have such a great, outdoor facility to keep them active. Enjoying our time outside is now more important than ever, and we’re hugely grateful to the funders who made all of this possible – Lancashire Environmental Fund, Sport England, Hyndburn Borough Council, Tesco and Lancashire County Council.

As you can see… great progress – we can’t wait to get on and use it!

We’re seeing great progress at the wheeled sports venue at Mercer Park.  As you can see from the pictures the ramps are really taking shape and if the rain holds off the contractors will be able to apply the concrete to the structure and you can all get skating / bmxing soon!

Really excited to have attended the photo shoot launching the wheeled sport project in Mercer Park. All the funding has been secured now thanks to Sport England, Lancashire Environmental Fund, Hyndburn Borough Council, Tesco and Lancashire County Council. Been a busy day 🙂

Still feeling very lucky to have been selected for additional funding from LEF!

LEF event

1.10.2018

Great news – on Friday, Proffitts were awarded an additional £20k from LEF for mercer park wheeled sports, in addition to the £30k that the project has already received from the fund, so we’re very nearly there now!

The award came as a surprise when we attended an LEF celebration event at Brockholes. Since the LEF fund started 20 years ago they have given out £26 mill of funding which has been matched by another £90 million! All in Lancashire since 1998. Amazing work!

It was a fantastic day and we were really thrilled to have been selected for one of the 5 awards given out by TV presenter and award winning camera man Simon King. Simon also gave a fascinating address titled ‘Enough’, and we were treated to a gorgeous guided walk around Brockholes reserve by one of the experts from Lancashire Wildlife Trust.

Brilliant day – thanks to everyone involved!

Many thanks for all your help with the recent consultation. We have now determined the preferred design and we are now at a stage to start applications for funding for the scheme which we will do over the next coming year – yes the process takes ages! But with a bit of determination we do hope we will get there in the end – with a bit of luck!  Make sure you like this page and share with your friends etc as we will update this from time to time. Only 12 weeks left til summer. Enjoy!

Sketch design for Mercer Park wheeled sports area – April 2016

Proffitts are working with Clayton Youth Club and young people in Clayton-le-Moors on ideas to improve and update the wheeled sports facilities at Mercer Park.

We recently asked young people in the area which skate and wheeled sports areas they use and which they rate as good. We also asked if they are skaters or BMXers and how often they ride.

Following on from this we are have put together a couple of design options that we would like more feedback on. Option 1  is to extend the existing skate area with steep ramps and Option 2 is for a new concrete wheeled sports area to replace the current facilities.

Please look at the designs below and complete the short questionnaire. The closing date for comments is the end of September and all entrants who leave details will be entered into a prize draw to win £20 of high street vouchers.
