Great coverage of the planting event from The Bolton News – thank you!!

The sun came out for the local community, Bolton at Home, Proffitts and the building contractors, Complete Construction, when they came together on Saturday to help out at the Community Planting Event organised by the Mossfield Meadows Community Group. The volunteers planted a fruiting hedgerow comprising currant bushes, rhubarb and raspberry canes along the boundary fencing. A variety of vegetables were planted in the raised beds and fruit trees were planted around the space on the previously derelict site and has been funded by Awards for All and the Veolia Environmental Trust (who have awarded a grant of £49,367 through the Landfill Communities Fund). The wider project includes creating an open community friendly space with new paths, a bog/wetland area, informal play area, raised beds, an edible hedgerow and seating.

The construction work is nearing completion and a celebratory/opening event is planned for the summer. Details will be available nearer the time from the Mossfield Meadows Facebook page and via Proffitts website.

Mossfield Meadows

Not much to report – we’re still in the process of finalising details but now that funding has been secured, we are very much looking forward to work starting later on this year. As usual, we’ll keep you posted on here!

We are absolutely delighted that a grant of £49,367 has been awarded from The Veolia Environmental Trust to the Mossfield Meadows project!! This will totally transform the area of derelict land in Kearsley, Bolton into a community space and recreational facility. Improvements will include a natural play area and a community garden area. We will now start working with The Veolia Environmental Trust to finalise the details of the project, including start dates, so that work can begin as soon as possible. Proffitts’ Community Project Officer, Linda Ward, said “This grant is great news. It brings us one step closer to creating a facility that will encourage positive and healthy lifestyles for the whole community”

The Community have worked hard gathering support and feedback which has helped towards finalising the plans for the improvements. The community group organised a Community Fun Day in October which attracted over 150 people.  We have now submitted a funding application and will hear if we have been successful in the new year.

Proffittts are working in partnership with Bolton at Home and have organised several evening consultation drop in sessions and questionnaire drops in the surrounding areas to get as much feedback as possible on what people want with the space. The results were very positive and have allowed Proffitts to create a master plan for the site – click on the link attached. This will be used to try and raise funds for the physical improvements.

Mossfield Meadows sketch design rev c

18.2.2014

This is a project in its very early stages. At the request of the local community group and Bolton at Home, Proffitts have been asked to organise initial consultations, designs and fundraising for this project. The site in question used to be a garage colony. Now it is empty and derelict, full of reeds and brambles. From the initial consultation that was held earlier this week, the local residents are keen for natural play, mini allotments, fruit trees, a path, a bog garden and a kick about area. Rachael, our landscape architect, now has the task of interpreting this information into sketch designs for the community to feedback on.
