25 April 2013

Community Group Friends of Snig Hole Park, working in partnership with Proffitts CIC and Rossendale Borough Council have secured  £162,000 to pay for new play equipment and improvements to access and drainage at the Snig Hole Play Area in Helmshore Memorial Park.

£132,000 has been secured from Section 106 funds from two local housing developments and a further £30,000 was awarded by the Lancashire Environment Fund (LEF) towards the improvements.

The Friends of Snig Hole Park community group was formed and constituted to tackle improvements needed at the park, both in access to the site, and quality of equipment available.  The group have developed a design in consultation with the local community.  The next step will be to tender for the equipment and for the work to be carried out, and work should be completed by the end of the year.

“We’re really pleased to have secured the extra funding from LEF,” said Group Chair Yvonne Cox “we have tried to reflect what the community wanted in the designs, and to now have the funding in place to make them a reality is amazing.  Now we can move forward to deliver the improvements so the Community can start to make better use of the park.”

Martin Proffitt, of Proffitts CIC praised the group, saying “It was recognised that improvements to the Park were needed and the group have worked hard to get the project to this point.  It’s great that the money necessary to carry out the work has been secured in such a short time. ”
