Bullough Park, Accrington

Amazing local artist, Cath Ford, has been busy running a creative workshop with children from St Oswald’s Primary School. In the first session, Year 5/6 pupils created “Frankenpapers” – textured papers made by joining different pieces together – which will help inspire and add texture to the final park interpretation artwork designs. They also learned about interpretation boards, how they are designed, and what makes them engaging and informative.
Working in groups, the children created their own interpretation board concepts, choosing titles, selecting pond creatures to feature, and matching images with text so the information was clear and easy to follow. They also explored the role of funders and logos, adding these to their designs.
Cath will now take away all of the children’s fantastic ideas and creative work to help develop the final designs for the new interpretation boards! 🌳

The PROSPECTS team are inviting local residents and families to get involved in creating a new wildflower meadow at Bullough Park. They will be running a series of family-friendly wildflower seed sowing sessions this Easter, helping to bring the new wildflower scrape to life.
Session dates:

- Tuesday 7 April, 10am – 12pm 🌸
- Sunday 26 April, 11am – 12pm 🌸
No experience is needed — just pop along and get involved. All are welcome, and it’s a great opportunity to learn more about wildflowers and support local biodiversity.

Congratulations to the team from PROSPECTS Foundation who worked with over 50 volunteers planting trees at Bullough Community Woodland on Sunday. It was an amazing turn out, especially as the weather was pretty awful, and the team from Prospects kept spirits up with their energy, enthusiasm, and a bit of hot chocolate too! They do such fantastic work, and this is another hugely successful project for them.
During the event, the Mayor read out a poem from Mount Carmel’s Eco Club Students ‘‘A walk in Bullough Woodland in 2050”. We’ve included a copy for you to take a look at below. Such a lovely poem, and we can’t wait to see the woodland thrive between now and 2050! 🌳

Bullough Park now has a pond!
The pond will create an additional habitat for wildlife and insects, adding to the biodiversity. It will also act as natural water management system absorbing some of the rainwater and providing a sustainable water source for plants and animals.
Our partners from Landscape Engineering and Lancashire Wildlife Trust have done a great job 🌳🪲🐞🌳

Construction work will begin again at Bullough Park and woodland this week. Contractors from Landscape Engineering will focus on improving access with new footpaths, steps, and signage. New interpretation panels will be installed, and a new woodland area and wildflower meadow will be planted too.
Work is expected to last until February 2026. Construction vehicles will be moving around the site, and at times some entrances will be closed temporarily to allow works to be carried out safely. Please take extra care moving around the site.
Apologies for the inconvenience this work will cause, but the site will be much improved after the works have been completed. If you have any queries about the project, or the works taking place, please do not hesitate to contact Rachael Gildert on 07875 106084 or [email protected].

Great news… funding has been secured for the second phase of improvement works at Bullough Park! The funding, provided by Lancashire Environmental Fund, will allow the team to improve access with new footpaths, steps, and signage. New interpretation panels will be installed, and a new woodland area and wildflower meadow will bring colour and interest to the site – as well as enhancing biodiversity and habitats.
We hope to have contractors on site later this year, and we’ll let you know as soon as an exact start date for works has been confirmed 🌳☀️🌼

Contractors from Landscape Engineering have now completed the first phase of improvements at Bullough Park!
This phase has included some access improvement work – new paths, fencing, gates, a horse stile, signage and entrance upgrades. The work was financed by Hyndburn Borough Council and the Lancashire Constabulary LANPAC (Lancashire Partnership Against Crime) team. The project has also received great support from Ward Councillors Cllr Munsif Dad and Cllr Kimberley Whitehead.
In the Autumn, look out for tree planting and more family friendly activities taking place on site – everyone will be welcome to join in!

Hyndburn Borough Council and The PROSPECTS Foundation are working together on a project to make improvements at Bullough Park, Accrington. Suggested changes include footpath creation and improvements, tree planting, wildflower bulb planting, the creation of a new viewpoint area, and pedestrian access / entrance improvements (that will also restrict vehicle access onto the site).
However, before any work begins, the team would like to find out what local people think about the plans – which you can see below. They also want to know if you have any ideas you would like to share too.
You can let them know you thoughts by completing this very short survey: Bullough Park Survey
