Chapelfield Nature Reserve, Bury

The Radcliffe Litter Pickers have worked their magic at Chapelfield Nature Reserve once again! This time, the group gathered 15 bags of litter and other fly tip items off the site. They do amazing work, and we’re really grateful that they have worked so hard at this site.

The amazing team from Radcliffe Litter Pickers are coming back to Chapelfield Nature Reserve on Thursday 18th April 🙂 They’ll be on site between 1.30pm and 3pm.
If you’d like to get involved and help out, we’d love to see you there. Groups like this make a real difference to the places and spaces that matter to people, and we’re really grateful that they’re back for a litter pick, part 2!

A huge THANK YOU to the Radcliffe Litter Pickers, Council staff and residents for their hard work this week! Together, they collected and removed 45 bags of rubbish and old junk from Chapelfield Nature Reserve. The weather wasn’t very good, and the site was boggy in parts – which made for tough picking – but they’ve done a brilliant job 🙂

Chapelfield is coming along brilliantly, and the team are back on site and hard at work again.
Trees will be planted this week and the picnic table will be installed. Work has started on the Nursery Brow path too, and this should be finished next week.

Great work at Chapelfield this week – the tree works are already complete!
Contractors will now be moving on to the other improvement areas. Just a reminder that the paths and wider site will remain open, but warning barriers will be installed around the working areas. Please take care when using the paths during the next few weeks as there will be machinery on site during working hours, Monday to Friday.

Contractors will begin work on site at Chapelfield Nature Reserve on Monday 20th February and continue until early April 2024.
The project includes woodland management, upgrading footpaths, new planting and the installation of seating and signage.
The paths and wider site will remain open, but warning barriers will be installed around the working areas. Please take care when using the paths during the next few weeks as there will be machinery on site during working hours, Monday to Friday.

Great to see Chapelfield mentioned in The Bury Times last week 🙂
As soon as work starts on site, we’ll let you know. The work has been made possible with funding from the Greater Manchester Environment Fund who are committed to helping communities improve their local, natural, environment and we’re thrilled to be working with them on this project.

Great news – funding for the project has now been secured from the Greater Manchester Environment Fund, and the work is currently going through the tendering process. We’re hoping that contractors will start on site before the end of this year, but we’ll keep you updated here – so do check back for new updates 🙂

It only takes a couple of minutes to complete, but it would be great to get your thoughts. Suggested changes include footpath improvements, installing a boardwalk over boggy areas, treating Japanese Knotweed, removing debris, planting fruit trees and work to make the entrances more welcoming to visitors – but you might have some ideas of your own.

Chapelfield Nature Reserve is a lovely spot serving communities in Radcliffe and Whitefield. All natural spaces need a little management from time to time to ensure the nature there can thrive and people can fully appreciate its potential and diversity. Over the coming year or two we will be working with Bury Council to identify areas of improvement such as footpath improvements, woodland management and debris clearance.
