Davyhulme Nature Reserve, Urmston

17.06.2013

This project is now complete – thank you to everyone for the support!

16.04.2013

A bid was submitted to ‘Your Heritage’, unfortunately it wasn’t successful. 🙁 So what’s the plan? We need to decide whether or not to resubmit / source any further funding pots. It would be a great project – if only we could get the £’s to make it happen. We’ll keep you posted.

This project is currently on hold.

Working closley with Woodsend Community Group and United Utilities we intend to improve this area for the full benefit of visitors and the wider community alike. Building on the success of a People Powered Change application were Woodsend Community Group were awarded just under £10,000 to start promoting the area to a range of people we hope to attract further funds to improve the infrastructure and access of the site with a focus on the rich social and natural history of the area.

The project intendeds to deliver the following:

  • Improving access into the site – Access to the area isnt good. It is currently univiting and difficult to negotiate the paths at times.

  • Provide new interpretation throughout the site. Combination of static, leaflets and QR / bluetooth technology.

  • Create a series of outdoor classrooms at relevent points throughout the site.

  • Improve facilities such as seating areas and picinc areas which will attract and retain the visitor in the site forlonger.

  • Reach out to schools, young people, older people and BME’s specifically through putting on relevant events and activities.

The first event was recently held with great success. Aimed at local families, more than 30 people attended ‘The Animal Cub Ball’ where they made masks, built dens and went foraging. It was a great day! Two more events are planned for spring next year involving local schools, scouts, guides and youth club.

The next steps for us and the group are to fundraise for the bigger capital project We have recently submitted an application to Your Heritage (Heritage Lottery Fund) and intend to apply to Landfill Tax funds in order to deliver the proposed plans (please click on the link below).
