Tesco token

29.2.2016

So, the voting has started!! I know we’re all busy – working, children, jobs etc – but the next time you’re in @Tesco_North then please take the time to make your vote. We’ve attached a photo of what the ‘token’ looks like – this is what the checkout person will give you when you’ve paid for your shopping. Just take it the the dedicated area where the voting boxes are, have a look at the community groups that are taking part and use your ‘token’ to vote for the project which is closest to your heart. Good luck!! We’ve voted – will you? It’s just one week to vote so please make your vote count. Thank you 🙂

Bags of life Tesco

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch its ‘Bags of Help’ initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s 390 regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the five pence charge levied on single-use carrier bags. You, the public, can vote in store @Tesco_North from 27 February until 6 March on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards. We think the Debdale project is a very worthy cause – if you agree, please can they have your vote?

Building on the success of secured funding – as requested, we have put bids into the Tesco carrier bag fund and the Veolia Environment Trust fund. If we are successful we will be able to deliver the project you have all been asking for and working towards over the last 18 months. We should hear of the outcome in the first part of the new year so keep in touch and linked in to this project page. Please click on the links below to view the plans and leave any feedback or comments you may have at the bottom of this page. Feedback is always welcome! Cheers!

As some projects come to an end other projects are just starting. We are just starting out working with Friends of Debdale Park and Manchester City Council to try and help them through the process of raising funding for their play area. During recent consultation it was deemed the highest priority for improvement and will therefore be tackled first. With the area steeped in history we are aiming to theme the play space in water and trains. If you ever have the time pay the place a visit – there’s usually lots going on – including sailing, cycling and horse-riding (part of the Fallowfield Loop).

Working in partnership with Friends of Debdale Park and Manchester City Council we are kick starting the process with further fundraising for improvements to the play area / MUGA (multi use games area) and cycle track as a priority. The Friends group have done a huge amount of work in terms of consultation and community engagement and securing some funds already for the MUGA and cycle track!  We are now at the stage where we will try and raise funds for the play area. We need everyone’s help here in terms of guiding us and giving your views so we can deliver what the community have requested – please feel free to comment at any time. Watch this space as we will post information of designs, any relevant events and how we are doing in terms of raising the funds. It’s not easy, but we will have a good go. Fingers crossed 🙂
