Tree planting time in Haslingden…the trees are outside of the graveyard, but help make the entrance and approach to the site more welcoming. Can’t wait to see them bloom 🌳

In the past week, the team from Martins Countryside Contracting Ltd have got the top course of the stone down, and they’ll be back this week to work on it again. They’ve also consolidated the brash piles, planted some bulbs, done a litter pick and taken the rubbish & scrap to the tip. We’re waiting on 3 larger trees arriving, but great progress so far!

The work to improve the site continues…stormy weather permitting, contractors will be on site again this week 🙂

It’s been a while, but we’re thrilled that we’ve been given the go ahead to start improvement work at the Haslingden Graveyard site. A team from Martin’s Contracting Services Ltd will begin work in December to clear the rubbish, weeds, and debris and give residents safe and easy access to the space once again. They will create a more welcoming entrance, tidy the walkways around the site, create a seating area, plant wildflowers to add some colour and interest to the site, and plant some new trees too. They’re small changes, but they’ll make a big difference to people who want to visit – and we can’t wait to see the finished space.

This project was put on hold by RBC but we do hope to revisit it again in 2023. We’ll let you know when it begins again 🙂

In 2019, Proffitts will be working alongside the local community, Rossendale Borough Council and Lancashire County council on a project around the changing face of Lower Deardengate, focussing on the graveyard area. Currently, the space is neglected, overgrown, prone to tipping and unattractive.

Once the project is completed, everyone in the local community will benefit from having a new, sociable, green, space where they can meet with friends, or just enjoy sitting and spending time outdoors.
