Local Authority Area Case Study – Bury

7.7.2014

Despite the heavy rain, local residents turned out in force on Friday to help Mayor of Bury, Cllr Michelle Wiseman, celebrate the launch of the refurbished play area at Purbeck, Brandlesholme. The play area is already being well used – despite only being open for a few weeks!

Local mum, Elizabeth Williams, visited the park recently with her sons:

“I was really impressed with the new play area at Purbeck Park. The new equipment is clean and brightly coloured and there is a good range for little ones and older children to play on. It is better now as its a soft surface on the ground so I was less worried about my children falling and hurting themselves. We particularly liked the basket swing – both myself and my two year old had fun on it!”

The play area at Purbeck in Bury is really coming together – this picture was taken on Monday this week. If the weather holds, we’ll be laying the rubber surfacing at the end of this week and we’re very hopeful that the actual site will be open at somepoint during half term next week. We’ll keep you posted!!

“We are delighted that the contractors have started work on the play area.  It has taken a while to get to this point, but we are looking forward to completing this phase of the project, and moving on to try to secure further funds to carry out improvements to the kickabout area and throughout the wider park area.”

Purbeck Park is due for a revamp!

Working alongside Brandlesholme Residents Association  and Bury Council we have come up with an initial sketch design for the area. Please click below to view the design.

The purpose of the initial design is to give local people the opportunity comment and feedback on proposals. This will be the first step in the planned community consultation, we will also be leafleting the immediate area as well as having a number of open meetings to ensure everyone has the opportunity to steer the project.

Funding for the works has come from Viridor (a landfill tax fund) and Groundwork Landscapes Ltd are on site undertaking the work at the play area undertaking the work which expected to last until towards the end of May.

Make sure you visit this web page in the future to see any updates as the project progresses.

More information about the project can be found at www.brabull.org.uk

Please remember to give us feedback.

Thank you!
