This project is now complete – thank you to everyone for the support!

23.9.2014

Go Velo and ‘Friends of Valley of Stone‘ attended the Empire Cycles PMBA Enduro Series event on Saturday 4 October (at Lee Quarry) to publicise the new ‘Ride the Past’ leaflets and routes we have put together recently (with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund!) It was a great day and the new leaflets were distributed to all riders attending the event (as well as a delicious  Cissy Green pie!)  The route cards for all rides are available to download at www.ridethepast.co.uk

Client study Rossendale Borough Council

This project supports both the on-going work of Friends of Valley of Stone (FOVOS) and the ongoing development of the Lee and Cragg quarry mountain bike trails by Lancashire County Council. Through a grant received from the Heritage Lottery Fund, this project aims to educate current and new users of the local history of this new outdoor playground.

The project will design four new mountain bike routes based on the heritage of the quarries and will assist users in identifying and understanding the need to ride in a sensitive and understanding manner, and why it is important to keep to designated routes so as not to damage areas or historical importance that are scattered throughout the quarries.

Go –Velo are currently working with members of FOVOS to develop the four distinctive routes each aimed at a different target group, one for families, one for recreational riders and two for more experienced riders.

After a number of focus groups, rides are completed in order to make sure that the routes are suitable for the different groups. Route cards will be available from various outlets around Rossendale and will be downloadable from the Valley of Stone and Proffitts websites
