This project is now complete – thank you to everyone for the support!

We are absolutely delighted that this project has been nominated for an award from the  Lancashire Environmental Fund.  It is a real honour even to be nominated! We find out the decision at the Annual Event on 25th September. Keep your fingers crossed for us!!  We worked closely with Rossendale Borough Council and Friends of Snig Hole Park on this project and it was a fine example of a real working partnership!

Better late than never! It’s been a busy couple of weeks but here are some lovely photos from the Easter Egg trail from Easter Monday. We worked with Friends of Snig Hole Park to hold a very successful Easter Egg Trail and 175 children signed up to take part!! This meant there were 450-500 people in the park – WOW! Talk about community spirit – the sun was shining too – a fabulous day 🙂

3.4.2014

Today was the official launch for the park! This project has been 3 years in the making and many hours of hard work by the Friends of Snig Hole Park, Rossendale Borough Council and ourselves! The play area was made possible due to funding from Section 106 via Rossendale Borough Council and Lancashire Environmental Fund. There were also some very generous donations from local businesses including Rossendales, Solomon Commercials, Neary’s, Camfil and from local residents which have helped contribute to the additional seating, turf and raised beds. The boulder that houses the beautiful new entrance sign was donated by John Beames of Blast Clean & Paint Ltd. A big thank you also goes to Groundwork Landscapes Ltd for all their hard work, toiling through the wettest winter for 100 years to deliver such a fantastic play area. And thanks to Proludic Ltd for the innovative and original play equipment design, and to Durasport for the brilliant play surfacing. A special thank you to the pupils of Helmshore Primary School and St Veronica’s RC Primary School for their wonderful designs that will feature in the new entrance sign. Last but not least, thank you to Yvonne from the Friends group who has driven this project from day one. Having lived, breathed and dreamed of this play area for the last 3 years, it is now a reality!!

We did it! With the help the local community, Friends of Snighole Park and Rossendale Borough Council we have managed to secure £162,000 to spend on improvements in Helmshore Memorial Park / Snighole. Next steps are to finalise the design and get the work out to tender. Well done everyone!

From the community consultation evening held on the 15.11.12 please see below the revised plans for the park / play area. We have tried to incorporate as many of people’s ideas as practicably possible. The next step now is to secure the section 106 potentially available and apply for funding from Lancashire Environmental Fund. Fingers crossed everyone!

We are getting great feedback from the questionnaire which was distributed recently. From the results we will put together a sketch design for people to comment on. Watch this space to view it soon. Also we will hold and advertise a public meeting so people can view and discuss options. This will probably take place in mid November.

Friends of Snig Hole Park recently approached Proffitts – Investing Communities to help consult local people, produce proposals based on consultation and then fundraise in order to make improvements in the park.

The project is in its very early stages, with consultation due to start in the next two weeks in the form of a questionnaire, which will then lead on to an open public meeting. Make sure you log in every now and then to see how the project is progressing and give feedback.

The Friends of Snig Hole Group also have a web site, which aims to give as much up to date information as possible. Check it out and make it one of your favourites:
