The Strimmer training course day was a great success – the weather was perfect and the Riverside Park is much tidier now. Everyone enjoyed it and came away with new skills and the necessary health and safety awareness that is essential for our countryside improvement projects

Big audition day in Glasgow today – just a case of waiting to find out if we got through! 🙂

13.2.2014

As some of you may know, Jackie, Darren, Chris and Catherine (from SCPG) and Liz and Linda (from Proffitts) auditioned to take part in the Eggheads TV show. It was a fun, but nerve wracking experience but we found out this week that we made it through! Not sure how that happened exactly but we’re delighted (and very nervous!). We’ll be going to Glasgow on 3 March to take on the Eggheads. Wish us luck – all for a great cause – to raise funds for the park 🙂 Watch this space for more news.

There was some great coverage in the Lancashire Telegraph at the weekend regarding the ‘Best Practice’ win – thank you Sophia at the Lancashire Telegraph

30.9.2013

Some very kind words from the Stacksteads Countryside Park Group “The Stacksteads Riverside Park project was announced the ‘Best Practice’ award in the Natural Environment category at the Lancashire Environmental Funds Annual Event last Friday. The improvements at the Riverside Park have taken 18 months in the planning and for the work to be carried out – and we are all absolutely thrilled to have this acknowledgement of our hard work and determination. Proffitts – Investing in Communities, worked closely with the Stacksteads Countryside Park Group to raise over £90,000 to make the plans a reality. The Riverside Park is now open and accessible with many path improvements and new features.”

19.9.2013 WINNERS!!!!!! The Stacksteads Countryside Park Group have won the Lancashire Environmental Fund’s ‘Best Practice’ award in the ‘Natural Environment’ category! Absolutely delighted for everyone that has helped and supported this project. Deserved winners – fabulous news for the community. Well done!!

8.8.2013 We are absolutely delighted that the Stacksteads Riverside Project has been nominated in the ‘Best Practice’ category of the annual ‘Lancashire Environmental Fund‘ Awards – so pleased that all the hard work has been recognised 🙂 More details to follow

In addition to the dual path, new surfacing and new seating and benches, we were delighted to see the local community participate in planting over 450 whips in Moss Meadow (part of Countryside Park). A community planting day was held in which some 30 or so people participated, and the School Council from Holy Trinity Primary school planted about 100 of the whips on a separate day. School children from Holy Trinity have designed 2 colourful entrance signs that are to be installed shortly. Also an additional noticeboard for the Rose n Bowl car park will be installed. Come and join us to celebrate the improved Countryside Park on Sunday the 28th of April! – there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mayor of Rossendale and a guided walk of the area so you can fully appreciate the much needed improvements that have been made to the Park. You will also be able to participate in plug planting sessions in the new wetland area and hot refreshments will be provided to warm you up! Please note that suitable clothing is recommended, especially wellies for the planting activities. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Stacksteads Silver Band will be attending the celebration event too. We will be meeting at 1pm at the Blackwood Road entrance. See you there! Coming up in July and August 2013 and thanks to Community Spaces – Stackteads Countryside Park Group will be running a whole host of events. Please see images and most recent news in the news section. Everyone is welcome!
