On Saturday, everyone is welcome to pop along and try the jumps!

Lee, the Ranger, will be on site selling hot and cold drinks from 10.30am πŸ«–β˜•

Please note that, because of the works and the awful weather, the entrance path to the site is quite muddy. Please take care when you make your way to the jumps 🌳🚲🌧️

The new pump track is looking brilliant…but, please don’t be tempted to use it before the fencing is down and the site is officially opened! Using the track now will cause damage that the contractors then have to fix. Not long to go… we’ll let you know as soon as it’s open and ready to ride πŸš²πŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈπŸŒ³

The weather has been challenging at times this week, but the team have still made good progress on site in Summerseat. In a couple of months, we’re hoping that the diggers will be gone and the visitors will be here instead β˜€οΈ. Just a reminder that you can take a look at the working design below to see what the track will look like when it opens.

Work on the new pump track site will start on Monday, 8th September.

Initial tasks include removal of a section of fencing to get access, creating a compound area, removing the balsam and shrub from the pump track area, and taking deliveries of stone. Then full construction will start w/c 15th September. Works will last approximately 6-8 weeks, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for some good weather.

The working design for the track is below.

It’s an exciting stage in the project, and we’re grateful to visitors for being patient and understanding while the contractors are on site / parts of the site are closed. If you have any questions about the track, design, or construction works, please contact either Martin Proffitt or Rachael Gildert who will be able to answer any questions.

We’ll share progress pics on here – so do check back for updates! πŸŒ³πŸš²β˜€οΈ

As part of the improvements at Summerseat Island, specialists from Dirt Factory will be redesigning and renovating the old pump track! The track will be designed to be both a playground and a training facility for bikers, skateboarders, and scooter riders of all skill levels. Visitors will be able to use it as a place to practice very basic skills like improving balance and building speed, or they can try more challenging jumps and tricks on the track too.

Before work on site begins, the Dirt Factory team will be running some workshops for people to find out more about the plans. There will be two sessions at Summerseat Primary School, and an open drop-in session at the site of the old track on Saturday 19th July.

If you / your family are interested in wheeled sports – then pop along to find out more about how to ride a pump track, and why riding tracks is great for health, fun and confidence.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Proffitts are delighted to be working alongside Bury Council and the Summerseat Village Collective on plans to improve Summerseat Island, Bury. You can take a look at the exciting masterplan for the site below.Β Proposed changes include:

Providing a haven for nature and recreation by creating:

β€’ A Honey House: A dedicated space to learn about the fascinating world of bees and their importance to our ecosystem.
β€’ An Educational Oasis: A new container classroom with an outdoor sail shade will be established alongside the existing basketball court, providing a unique venue for educational programs and activities.
β€’ A Picnic Perfect Space: Strategically placed picnic tables and sturdy stone and timber seats around the island and basketball court will provide perfect spots for relaxation and socialising.

Celebrating natural heritage:

β€’ Woodland Sanctuary: Woodland areas will be carefully surveyed, and management actions will be taken to ensure their health and sustainability.
β€’ Ecological Haven: An ecological and habitat survey, along with a bat survey, will be conducted to inform the planting of new trees, shrubs, and wildflowers throughout the site.
β€’ Bat Box Blitz: The community will come together to create and install new bird and bat boxes around the island. Bat specialists will even be leading walks to identify the resident bat species!

Ensuring accessibility for all by:

Prioritising accessibility for all with surfaced paths, ramps, and boardwalks in boggy areas.

Adding fun features:

A Pump Track Paradise will also be added. The group will work with the community, young people, and a specialist contractor to design and build a new pump track on the site. This exciting feature will utilise natural materials and incorporate reused materials whenever possible, promoting sustainability and fun. The pump track will be designed to curve around existing trees, preserving the natural aesthetic.

Creating a flourishing pond and wildlife haven:

The existing pond area will be transformed into a vibrant wetland haven by re-excavating and reshaping the existing pond to create a larger and more ecologically beneficial area. The revamped pond area will create an attractive habitat for a variety of wildlife species. Boardwalks and dipping platforms will be constructed at the edges, allowing for closer exploration and nature connection.

The project is in the early stages, but it’s already looking very exciting! We’ll keep you updated on progress and next steps here, so do keep checking back for updates.
