Following the consultation last year, we shared your feedback with specialist wheeled sports contractors and we now have 3 design ideas for the space (see below). We are now encouraging anyone with an interest in wheeled sports such as skate boarding, BMXing, inline and scootering to take a look at the plans and let us know which one they like best. You can do this by completing this very short survey: Victoria Park Wheeled Sports Design
The survey is very quick and your feedback is really important to us โ we want to ensure that the new site works well for as many people as possible.ย Please note that the survey link will close on Thursday 25th April at midday, so please complete it before then. We understand that this is a very tight turnaround. However, this stage is just for initial feedback on the designs and users will have more opportunity to input into the actual finished design once a preferred contractor has been selected. We’ll let you know more about this process soon.
Thank you for your continued support with this project, we look forward to seeing which design you prefer ๐น

The Victoria Park Wheeled Sport Survey is still open! Please let us know what improvements you and your family would like to see, and what changes need to be made for you all to enjoy the space once again.
We appreciate that December is a hectic month for many of you, but the survey only takes a couple of minutes to complete – and your suggestions will help make sure that we get any future designs right for you.
Thank you to everyone who has responded so far ๐

Following the meeting earlier this week, a survey for the improvement of the wheeled sports area is now open!
You can access the questions and leave feedback here: Victoria Park Wheeled Sport Survey
As well as commenting on the current facilities, you can also share your own ideas and suggestions for the design of the potential new space. The survey only takes a couple of minutes to complete, but it will help us see what the priorities are for BMX, scooter, skate and inline skate users๐.
Your responses will also help us find and secure the funding needed to make this happen.
Please do share the survey with friends and family too โ weโd love to hear from residents and visitors of all ages. The survey will be open until 31st December, 2023.
Just a reminder, the wheeled sports changes are part of the wider Victoria Park Masterplan for improvements (below).

The time has come for us to create a ‘Friends of Victoria Park‘ volunteer community group to support us as we move the Victoria Park improvement project forward!
There are some fantastic ‘Friends of’ groups making big changes across the borough already, and we’d love to see that happen here too. So, if you’d like to represent your community, get involved with practical tasks within the park, help organise events for visitors, or support the fundraising needed to make the changes happen – then we’d really like to see you at our next meeting.
The next meeting will take place at

A big thank you to the team at the Youth Service and the schools, teachers and pupils from St. James’ CE Primary School, Haslingden Primary School, Haslingden High School and All Saints High School who joined us to talk about their ideas for improving the wheeled sports area within the park.
The next step will be to invite people in to the park to talk more about design and features. Once we have a design that people are happy with, we’ll try to get the funding needed to make the changes. As always, funding isn’t guaranteed and these things can take time, but do keep checking back here for updates.
30.05.2023
The next meeting to discuss the Victoria Park project will take place on Wednesday, 7th June, 7-8pm. It will take place at Haslingden Community Link.

When we met with park users at the community meeting in February, attendees requested a few changes to the plan. The plan has now been amended to reflect the discussions and comments, and I’ve attached the updated version below.
The main feedback we received was that improvements to the multi use games area and the wheeled sport area should be considered as one project area, and that making changes to these spaces is a high priority for visitors. As council budgets are already extremely tight, we will need to try and source some external funding to get these facilities upgraded. We’re going to start work on this, but as this is likely to be a costly project, we may need to complete any planned work in phases – but we’ll let you know more once we have submitted some applications.
Before the forms go in, we’re going to talk to more local people who are interested in using the spaces – just to make sure we get the design and plans right. We’ll work alongside Lancashire County Council Youth Service to encourage children from local schools to get involved, and we were joined at the community meeting by a professional BMX rider who learnt his skills at Victoria Park and he has offered to share some thoughts too – which is fantastic.
As always, we’ll keep you up to date when there’s news and information to share. And, if you’d like to get more involved in the project, then please do get in touch at [email protected].

Good news to share…as you may have seen, some path work improvements planned for the park have already been completed, and some of the main areas of concern are now a little safer underfoot. Over the next couple of weeks, you’ll see new benches, picnic tables and bins being installed, and some way markers will be positioned around the park to help people track their distance walked / ran. To encourage families with younger children to explore, the way markers will have a simple visual on (such as a holly leaf or a crocus), to make the walking routes a little more fun too ๐
23.02.2023
Just a reminder that the Victoria Park Masterplan Meeting will be taking place next Tuesday, 28th February. We’ll be popping posters up throughout the park, and if you’d like to find out more about the project, or like to get more involved, we’d love to see you there!
The meeting will start at 6pm, and take place at Haslingden Community Link, Bury Road, Haslingden, BB4 5PG.

During the public consultation about improvements to Victoria Park, several people suggested that it would be helpful to form a Friends of Victoria Park steering group. This would give residents and park users the opportunity to meet other local people with an interest in the park, and the project. If you left your email address as part of the consultation, then you should have been contacted about this directly. If you didn’t leave your details, but you’d like to be involved, then please find the details for the first meeting below:
Date: Tuesday, 28th February 2023
Time: 6PM
Venue: Haslingden Community Link, Bury Road, Haslingden, BB4 5PG
In the meeting, we’ll discuss how the group could work and look at consultation results and the masterplan for the park (copy below). We’ll also discuss priorities, potential funding sources and next steps.
Please feel free to pass details on to friends and family who many not have seen this page. We look forward to seeing you ๐

Great news – following the community feedback about the Victoria Park Masterplan, the team are going to be able to make some important changes very soon. Having more places to sit within the park was identified as a key issue for many visitors, so more seating will be added in the next few months. Also, you’ll see some new distance way markers installed to help people navigate the site a bit more easily.
The large scale improvement plan is still moving forward, and we’re in the process of forming two groups who will support with the project too. The first is a Steering Group who can help us oversee the project, and the second is a more informal group made up of young people, school children, and people who enjoy wheeled sports, who can share ideas about the redevelopment of the wheeled sports area within the park.
If you’d like to be part of either group, please email to let us know! You can reach us at [email protected]

If you’d like to take a look at the masterplan, or discuss the plans for Victoria Park in more detail, there will be a team in the park this Saturday, 15th October from 2pm until 4pm. We look forward to seeing you there ๐

Thank you to everyone who has shared their feedback and ideas. We’ve gone through all of the comments, and we now have an updated plan for Victoria Park. You can see an updated copy of the plan below, or you can click here to see the image in a larger view: Victoria Park Masterplan v1
As mentioned previously, the improvement works will take place in phases:
Phase 1 works include upgrading pathways, surfacing, and drainage around the park. This includes tackling water run off issues in the wheeled sports area, providing a new path to the Clock Tower, and improving the surface around the Band Stand. Repairs to the Band Stand itself will also take place and tree works will be undertaken to allow more light to reach the area. New play equipment will also be installed during this phase, and a woodland walk with better surfacing, planting, and bat and bird boxes will be created too.
Phase 2 will see more access improvements, changes to the outdoor gym area, improvements to the wheeled sports area, the creation of a cycle track for children, and the addition of an outdoor learning facility.
During phase 3, the North, South and West entrances will be improved by making repairs and installing decorative signs and colourful planting. The fountain and multi-use games area will both be repaired, and woodland management projects including underplanting, tree surveys and crown lifting will begin.
The final phase of works, phase 4, includes boundary wall and railing repairs, the installation of a flagpole, the creation of trails, the installation of artwork and way makers, and further work on the bowling green.
As you can all imagine, this is a long-term plan for Victoria Park and the changes will need to take place over several years. However, now that we have a plan, the fundraising work can begin. This takes time, but as soon as we have any updates from funders about the project, we will let you know – so do keep checking back here for updates.

We had a lovely afternoon with local residents, councillors, council officers and representatives from the local school at Victoria Park last week. Everyone was full of ideas as to how the park could be improved to suit all users. We will now try and capture all of these ideas into one plan. Once we have a plan, we’ll share with the wider community in order to gain more feedback and a sense of priority – so look out for a survey and details popping through your letterbox soon. We’ll update you on progress here too, so check back regularly for more information.
