A huge thank you to the amazing children, staff, and parents, from Northern Primary School who helped with the planting event at Weir Play Area today. The weather wasn’t great, but the children were awesome – they planted hundreds of wildflower plugs that should bring some extra colour to the site in future years. It was a lot of work, and we really couldn’t have done it without them. Thank you! ๐๐บโ

After a winter of rain, frost, sunshine and even snow, itโs wonderful to see Weir play area updated and open again!
Thanks to everyone for their patience and continued support while the contractors worked hard on site. Thanks also to the brilliant teams at FCC Community Action Fund, Lancashire Environment Fund, Tesco Bags of Help, and Nations Lottery Awards for All for funding the project alongside Rossendale Borough Council and local community donations โ we couldnโt have done it without you all!
A special thank you must also go to the artistic children from Northern Primary School in Weir, who designed the new signs for the play space ๐
We’ll need to wait until later in Spring to carry out remediation work on the grassed areas, so watch out for that. Until then, happy playing ๐

The site at Weir is coming together nicely! We need some dry days to get the special rubber mulch under 2 of the units laid (it can’t be done in the rain), and then the team can move on to the topsoiling, turfing and finishing touches. Almost there…:-)

The project is going ahead thanks to funding from Rossendale Borough Council, FCC Community Action Fund, Lancashire Environment Fund, Tesco Bags of Help, Nations Lottery Awards for All and also community donations – THANK YOU all ๐

As part of the play area project, local children from Northern Primary School in Weir have been busy designing new signs for the play space. The children have done an amazing job, and we can’t believe how many designs entries we received! They were all fantastic, and we’ve included a small selection for you to take a look at below.
We’re hoping contractors will be on site in October 2023. We’ll update you again once the exact start date is confirmed ๐

Great news…funding for the project has now been secured! The work has been put out to tender, and we should have a contractor confirmed soon. As soon as we have a start date, we’ll let you know, so do check back here for updates! ๐

Hi all, thanks loads for your feedback! We got lots of good ideas from the questionnaires and the drawings the children at Weir Northern Primary did. Attached is a summary of the results so you can see what was said as a community. Weir Summary Data_All_190909 and the school children’s workย SKM_C3110190717164800ย . We are now at the stage of fund raising. This stage takes ages and is not an easy thing to do. We are in the process of applying to a range of funders for a range of amounts of ‘match funding’. We have actually applied to one funder but didn’t manage to secure so we wont be able to do everything in one go and will have to phase the work now into 2 phases is we are indeed successful with the remaining fundraising. Please see the attached most up to date plan.
Please cross your fingers and hope we can get there. Thanks for your continued support. Remember to share this and feel free to send us your comments using the comment box below.
