Just another gentle nudge to remind you to vote for #WhinneyHill the next time you’re doing your shop at Tesco. All you need to do is make sure you get a blue token from the cashier and drop it into the box on the way out. Here’s a photo so you know what it looks like – thank you!!

We have an exciting opportunity to win a share of funding from Tesco Bags of Help to help fund our Whinney Hill Green Space project.

The key elements of this project is based on improving access into, and through the site, so that it encourages more people to use Whinney Hill.

The first major piece of work will be to create a new 625 metre path that will link to Whinney Hill Road and Clayton-le-Moors beyond.

The second major piece of work will be to thin a large area of the existing woodland and remove the large stands of Himalayan Balsam and Japanese Knotweed on site. Other works will include new entrance gates, a noticeboard, bird boxes, benches, and waymarkers.

This whole project is about enhancing and improving an existing green space that is wedged against one of the largest landfill sites in the County. The works will enhance the access into, around and through the site. It will also enhance the woodland, pond and meadow areas for the benefit of wildlife.

The conservation and guided events will connect local people with the environment and the benches, noticeboards, and gates will help to inform local people, give them somewhere to sit an

d enjoy the site and the new gates will help to keep out the unwanted motorbikes that can be a noisy nuisance.

This is where we need your help. In order to win a share of funding, we need you to vote! Not just once, but as many times as possible! So, the next time you’re doing your shop (Abbey St Accrington Express, Accrington, Oswaldtwistle Mil Express) don’t forget to ask the cashier for a blue token. Take this token to the large, glass voting box (usually by the entrance) and vote for Whinney Hill! This project is in partnership with The Prospects Foundation – a fabulous charity in Hyndburn which protects and enhances the local natural environment.  You can find out more about what they do by clicking here

Remember, you can receive a blue token with ANY transaction so whether you’re nipping in for a pint of milk or doing your big shop, don’t forget to ask for one from the cashier. You can vote as many times as you like before the end of June – good luck and thanks!
