Tree works have been taking place at the Old Town Hall Gardens in Whitefield to help improve the site and ensure the long-term health and safety of the gardens.

We’d like to say a big thank you to A Edge Tree and Garden Services, who went above and beyond by creating a beautifully carved wooden seat from one of the felled trees for the community to enjoy.

It’s great to see part of the tree given a new purpose that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come 🌳🌳🌳

Essential tree works are due to begin at Whitefield Old Town Hall Gardens from 5th May 2026.

These works will focus only on trees that have been identified as dead, diseased, dying, or unsafe. No healthy trees will be removed.

The works are expected to continue until mid-May, weather permitting.

During this period, parts of the gardens may need to be temporarily closed, and contractors’ vehicles will be on site to allow the works to be carried out safely.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank the community for your patience and understanding while these important safety improvements are completed. We’ll keep you updated on progress here 🌳🌳🌳

Following the recent consultation and onsite event, we’re pleased to share the planned proposals for improvements to the Old Town Hall Gardens. Take a look below to see the image and site plan outlining what’s proposed. Work is expected to begin in the coming months and will include tree maintenance, entrance improvements, and clearing overgrown plants and brambles to open up views across the gardens. The pond will also receive sensitive restoration, with debris, shrubs and litter carefully removed and replaced with wetland flowers to support wildlife. New signage will be installed, along with colourful shrubs and trees to bring interest and colour to the site throughout the year. We’ll keep you updated and let you know as soon as work begins. 🌿🌸

The first maintenance session at the Old Town Hall Gardens took place earlier this month, and the small group of volunteers got a lot done! They picked litter, cleared fallen branches to make a brash hedge with stakes, cleared paths, and cut back brambles to uncover the Crocus that are starting to flower.

Another session is planned for 13th March, 10am – 12 noon. If you could like to get involved on this date – or with any future sessions – please contact Kathy Taylor at [email protected]
