🙂 This was a wonderful project to be part of, and we still follow the progress of the group on social media. If you’d like to know more about the group, you can take a look here Willow Garden Project

21.2.2017

We are delighted that the Willow Garden Project application to the Tesco Bags of Help Grant Scheme has been successful!

The project will now be put forward to a customer vote in local Tesco stores during this month. But we don’t have much time! Voting is only in place until 25 February. The project with the highest number of votes across the region will receive £5000, £2000 and £1000 – all you have to do is the next time you shop at Tesco, you will receive a token. Make sure you ask for one if they forget – it does get busy on the tills! Then take the token to the customer service desk/entrance area where you will see a plastic container for voting.

If the group were to win a share of these funds, it would go towards the costs associated with workshop/volunteer support and service delivery at the Willow Garden Project. The community gardens have been recently finished and some fabulous horticulture therapy sessions and volunteer training have already been delivered. More regular, structured sessions are in the planning!

The Willow Garden Project is the only supported horticultural provision within a 30 mile radius meaning it is very unique to Flyde and Wyre. The project is an excellent resource for the community to learn about food, food growing and seasonality. All horticultural skills gained and transferable and the therapeutic benefits include mood improvement, self belief and personal success. Part of the Willow Garden Project’s ethos is to dispel prejudices surrounding mental health. Neighbouring wards, including Pharos, Jubilee and Warren would benefit hugely from this provision.

Now that we have convinced you to vote, here are the local Tesco shops you can vote:

Building on the success of the group being awarded £50,000 from The Peoples Millions, Proffitts have worked with the group to secure further funding from ‘Awards for All’ to continue to build and secure the future of the Willow Garden. The work associated with the ‘Awards for All’ will start in the new year and will comprise of the following:

– ‘Taster’ workshops aimed at clients, carers and families to showcase the Willow Garden Project as a resource and staff and volunteer expertise.
– Open days aimed at the local community, clients, referral agencies and care organisations to promote services and therapy workshops on offer.
– Identify and create volunteer opportunities to work within the Willow Garden Project.

The main aim of the work will be to attract clients and agencies and sustain this interest in the service Willow Garden Project provides.

Looking forward to the first workshop!
