3 places available: The Evolution of civic buildings – tomorrow!!!!!
Due to last minute cancellations 3 places have become available for tomorrow’s training session:
Civic Buildings
Friday 11 March 2016, 10am — 1pm
Venue: Helmshore Textile Museum
Session overview : This session aims to give participants an understanding of the evolution of civic buildings, our Town Halls, Libraries, Museums, Railway Stations and other public buildings and spaces. Industrialisation transformed our landscape forever, creating some of our best known and most well-loved buildings in the process. The wealth created by industrialisation, coupled with a sense of civic pride, led to those buildings being created, these buildings embody that sense of civic pride and perform valuable public services, making them more architecturally elaborate than their function alone would dictate. That tradition continues to this day, with some of the best contemporary architecture reserved for civic buildings.
As with all previous session in this series the course will be delivered by UCLAN Lecturer, Building Surveyor and Course Leader for the MSc in Building Conservation & Adaptation, Chris O’Flaherty.
The sessions will be of particular interest to anyone with a sympathy for historic buildings and places who wants to learn more about their architectural history and how to identify it. This will include anyone who interacts with the historic environment or who is involved in making decisions about historic buildings and places, including Council Officers and Members, planning and construction professionals, estate managers, tradespersons and anyone with a keen interest in the historic environment.
If you would like to book a free place on this session (donations most welcome) then please email Ann – and don’t forget you will also get a free buffet lunch!
