Brierfield Allotment Group Flourishes
Brierfield Children’s Allotment had 2 tonnes of free compost delivered yesterday (12.07.2012), thanks to Lancashire County Council and Global Renewables. Proffitts’ staff have been working with The Family Tree Centre to enable the Children’s Allotment to be once again used by families and local children’s groups as a valuable community resource. Volunteers and staff have been hard at work over the last 2 months clearing beds, getting rid of weeds, mending fencing, getting plants growing and we’re now pleased to announce a programme of activities that will run over the school holidays every Thursday 10 am – 2.30pm starting on the 26th July.
“It’s been really hard work but I’m really pleased that we can now open up the Children’s Allotment for families and groups,” says Project Officer Liz Hinchliffe, “the weather has often been against us but that has only made us more determined!”
The facilities at the allotment are great – there’s a cob oven, poly-tunnel, somewhere to shelter if it rains, lots of growing space so come and check it out!
