East Lancashire Railway Need Your Support!
The East Lancashire Railway a is a not-for-profit charity, and they are seeking your help for a very special project which is vital to the future of the heritage railway.
Higher Woodhill Viaduct (Burrs Country Park) is a vital structure that carries the ELR through Burrs Country Park up into the Irwell Valley to Rawtenstall, but it is in need of maintenance in the next 12 months to ensure it continues to deliver on the experience enjoyed by so many for the future. Incredibly, its last repairs were carried out in 1932!
Regular inspections are carried out on the structure and while there are no question marks around its safety, repairs are required to allow for the continued level of use of steam and diesel trains. The estimate for this work is £1.28million, with grants anticipated to cover most of these costs. However, the team still really need your help too!
You can help by providing them with an endorsement of your support in writing, including how much you value the ELR in your letter. However, the deadlines are very tight and to help, you would need to email your letter to [email protected] TODAY, Tuesday 9 April.
The team are also seeking support with the match funding objectives required by some funders, through a Crowd Funding Campaign. The details for this can be found here:
