Fairview Recreation Ground and Play Area, Rossendale

Happy New Year! As you may have noticed, the team haven’t been able to go to site yet because of the snow and ice ❄️ Both the rubber surfacing under the play equipment, and creating the stone to dust path need no ice (and dry weather for the surfacing too). We’re hoping as the snow clears this week, the team will return to site and things will get moving once again ☃️

The team will be installing the handrail on the new steps in the coming days, so they will be opening again soon.
The play equipment arrived on site this week, and the contractors will aim to get everything installed before they take a break for Christmas. Surfacing will take place in the New Year – so look out for work continuing at the start of 2025! 🌳🎄❄️

The team are making good progress on site at Fairview! They’re focussing on the steps first, and they’ve also started excavating and preparing for the play equipment bases too. Thanks to everyone for their patience while contractors are on site 👷♂️

Great news…work to upgrade the play area at Fairview Recreation Ground will start at the end of October!
Planned improvements include:
- Replacing a piece of play equipment within the existing play area and replacing the play surfacing
- Installation of a new timber trim trail
- Installation of new junior play equipment (zip wire and swings)
- Installation of new seats and litter bins
- Upgrading the footpath and steps
The wider site will remain open for the duration of the works but small areas will be fenced off during the construction period for safety. This will include the steps leading to Holly Tree Close.
Contractors are due to start on site on 28th October, and work is expected to last between 8-10 weeks – weather and Christmas holidays permitting ☀️.

Thank you to everyone for sharing their ideas! The next step is for us to look at the consultation feedback, see what your priorities area, and create a draft new design for you to look at. We’ll work on this in the new year, and share details with you when we can 🙂

As well as commenting on the current facilities, you can also share your own ideas and suggestions for the space. The survey only takes a couple of minutes to complete, but it will help us see what the priority issues are for local people, and get any future design right for you 🙂

We’re delighted to be working alongside Rossendale Borough Council on plans to improve the Fairview Recreation Ground & Play Area.
Before we create a plan for the space, we’ll be consulting with park users and local residents to find out what they currently like about the area and what changes they would like to see. Once we have this, we can sketch out some designs and begin the fundraising process.
We’ll share the survey here, and we’ll use this page to keep you updated with more news as we have it too – so do keep checking back for details 🌳
